For decades, scientists have been warning against the use of fossil fuels and against ever further economic growth on a finite planet. Despite this, resources worldwide are being exploited ever more rapidly and ruthlessly, and more greenhouse gases are being emitted into the atmosphere year after year.

Many scientists now agree that the 1.5-degree target of the Paris climate agreement, while still possible on paper, is no longer realistically achievable.

At the end of April 2021, the German Constitutional Court declared the German government’s climate protection law unconstitutional in parts. Politicians must do much more to ensure that the climate targets are achieved. They must not put off drastic steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the expense of the younger generation.

But despite this historic ruling, the same thing is happening that always happens – nothing. The expansion of renewable energies and the power lines they require continues to be systematically blocked and fossil fuels subsidized instead. And because we are heading straight for a future that is hostile to life, the protests are getting louder and more extreme.

But instead of finally informing the public about the real dangers and concretely addressing the problems, politicians are loudly agitating about “climate glue” and “climate terrorists” to distract the masses from their own failures.

It is just sad that worldwide greed comes before reason while science and youth are simply ignored.

If the climate were a corporation or a bank, you would have saved it already, but unfortunately it is only about the future of your children and grandchildren.
